Co-Founder
Until today, precisely searching a product or part is possible only if one has expert knowledge and is aware of the exact name of the product. Even then, one cannot know which nearby stores may have the product in stock. Finally, even if one knows that a product is in stock in a certain store, to actually locate it can be hard and require lots of time.
We are a team of four people and founding a start-up that will offer key 3D computer vision and machine learning technology to catalog and search products with the quick use of a smartphone only. This will provide the central building block to create a platform that connects customers and businesses and allows to quickly determine where exactly a product can be purchased. Notably, the technology is universal and has the potential to scale to a global player.
Responsibilities:
- System design of infrastructure across smart phones and servers
- Development of novel database technology with machine learning
- Prospectively leading an engineering team
Requirements
- Expert skills in C++ programming
- Expert skills in Python programming
- Expert skills in smart phone application development
- Advanced skills in web development
- Previous experience in building infrastructure for a large industry or open-source project
- Desire to work in an agile team
The start-up is based in Saarbrücken, with the possibility of remote work.

Hiwis and Tutors for 3D Computer Vision
In the upcoming winter semester, the CVMP lab will offer a new lecture on 3D computer vision. Please find the syllabus at https://cvmp.cs.uni-saarland.de/teaching/#3DVision.
The lecture will be accompanied by exercises from the areas: feature extraction and matching, stereo depth estimation methods, optical flow estimation methods, scene flow estimation methods, rigid 3D reconstruction, visual localization, SLAM and non-rigid reconstruction.
We are looking for Hiwis to help us implement these exercises. It offers the opportunity to dive into in one or more of the above areas and gain profound skills in them. You will be supervised by PhD students from the CVMP lab, who have expert skills in these areas, as well as from Prof. Ilg directly. We offer flexible working hours and a great team atmosphere.
Requirements for the Hiwi:
- Profound skills in Python and PyTorch
- Experience in setting up and training deep networks
- Optionally skills in 3D computer vision
For the upcoming winter semester, we are also looking for Tutors for the same lecture.
Requirements for the Tutor:
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Having taken “Image Processing and Computer Vision”
- Having taken “High Level Computer Vision” or
“Neural Networks: Theory and Implementation” with the computer vision project in the end - Optionally skills in 3D computer vision
Please include the following information with your application:
- Your CV
- Your grade transcript
And send your application to Prof. Eddy Ilg (cvmp-applications@cs.uni-saarland.de).

Deep Learning is today leading the field of Computer Vision. Several frameworks to train models have been presented and become very mature. Data visualization and interactive inspection is equally important, but notably no complete and mature tools exist to this end. The company aims to provide simple and efficient tools for visualization and inspection to increase the productivity and success of deep-learning practitioners world-wide. We will start from iViz, created by Prof. Eddy Ilg, and build a community to grow the software to a complete, fully-fledged integrated data visualization and inspection environment.
Responsibilities:
- UI development in Python and C++
- Building a community
- Developing a business plan and scaling the company as a CEO
Requirements:
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Expert skills in Python programming
- Expert skills in C++ programming
- Expert skills in Qt programming
- Intermediate skills in web development
- Advanced skills in Linux software development
- Optionally advanced skills in Windows software development
- Experience in a large industry or open-source project
- Desire to lead a project and a team

PostDoc Position
PostDoc Position in 3D Computer Vision and Continual Learning
Although deep learning has conquered the field of perception algorithms and is today omnipresent, strong limitations of conventional systems are that they operate in 2D and use a fixed training dataset.
The goal of your project is to advance state-of-the-art machine perception algorithms by lifting the representation to 3D and enabling the systems to increase their knowledge from continuously incoming unlabeled data. To this end, you will be combining discriminative with generative deep learning-based models that can reason about their own knowledge and combine them with state-of-the-art 3D reconstruction techniques. This will lead to more interpretable, robust and generalizable models. Your work will involve state-of-the-art computer vision research on 3D scene representations, inverse rendering, uncertainty estimation, continual learning and natural language processing.
The positions target publications on CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, and NeurIPS and will set you up for an outstanding career in academia or industry. The research is highly relevant for the future of AI and the practical use of your research will be for 3D scene understanding, contextual AI, virtual shopping, and visual search. You will be working in an interdisciplinary setting embedded in the environment of Saarland Informatics Campus with leading researchers in the field and building international relationships.
Requirements:
- An outstanding PhD with strong visibility on CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, and NeurIPS
- Background in 2D and 3D computer vision
- Optionally a background in continual learning
- Interest to work in an interdisciplinary setting in 2D/3D computer vision, NLP, and reinforcement learning
- Interest to take a leading role by contributing to the direction of the project and co-supervising students
- Motivation to build international relationships
- Optionally interest in co-founding a startup
Please include the following information with your application:
- Your CV
- Your publication list
- A link to your thesis
And send your application to cvmp-applications@cs.uni-saarland.de.
